Common warehouse mistakes such as product positioning, inventory issues, and warehouse design can be avoided by considering the following tips or suggestions to help manage your warehouse properly.

Warehouse space planning and design

Warehouse design is the main feature to be considered, as it includes the complete equipping of the facility.

Space must be utilized fully and efficiently to create more efficient routes for personnel and inventory, thus saving time and costs.

Warehouse operators must be properly qualified and perform all processes efficiently, avoiding risks to the goods and the warehouse itself.

Support equipment will be essential; forklifts must be suitable for different types of racking, as well as barcodes, pallet shuttles and many other elements that help facilitate and optimize the process.

Organize inventory by demand and rotation

In the warehouse, certain products have more requirements than others, or simply the demand changes with the seasons. We need to be aware of the inventory with the highest turnover at all times, as it is critical to organize inventory in different ways, placing these products closest to the shipping area to save process time and avoid running out of stock when customers request goods.

Product locations and their labels

Each reference must be correctly marked with its identification code and placed in its location. In order to identify each product accurately and without errors, the warehouse must be well organized. Therefore, we need to define and distinguish each area, respecting the actions taken in each of them. It is important to maintain this organization over time.

Establishing safety procedures and tasks for employees

Just as inventory must be properly organized, so must the tasks of workers and the safety regulations that must always be followed. Each worker will perform his or her own duties, but always be flexible to any modifications required for each situation.

Warehouse security is crucial, so workers must be fully aware of how to ensure this in order to work more efficiently. To do this, they will complete awareness courses, as everyone entering the warehouse must be aware of the security protocols.

Using cross-docking in the warehouse

The goal of this technology is to reduce the storage time of products as much as possible. When the goods arrive at the warehouse, they are transported directly to the picking area for shipment, without going through the warehouse inventory. This will help save storage space and time, improve order delivery times and reduce costs.

Implement quality control

Getting good customer satisfaction is the most important point to consider, so if the order is error free, their satisfaction will increase.

Before any order leaves the warehouse, quality control must be performed to avoid errors or out-of-stocks.

To save time, we need to perform these controls at every stage of the logistics process, from product collection, picking and packing to shipment.

All the above mentioned points are essential for a good organization of the warehouse. Everyone has their own different needs, but all require constant planning in order to make the process really efficient and everything work.
