Types of Industrial Racking for the Warehouse

Industrial racking systems are essential components of warehouse storage solutions, designed to optimize space and improve operational efficiency. There are several types of racking systems, each suited for different storage needs and inventory management practices. The most common types include:

Selective Racking: This is the most widely used system, offering easy access to individual pallets. Selective racking is ideal for warehouses with a wide variety of SKUs, as it allows for quick picking and restocking.
Drive-In/Drive-Through Racking: These systems are designed for high-density storage, making them ideal for warehouses with a large number of the same product. Forklifts drive into the racking system, allowing for more efficient use of vertical space.
Cantilever Racking: Best suited for storing long, bulky items such as pipes, timber, or furniture, cantilever racking provides open access to products, making it easier to load and unload without obstruction.
Push-Back Racking: This high-density system allows pallets to be stored in a series of nested carts that move back as new pallets are added. Push-back racking is beneficial for warehouses with limited space and large inventory of similar products.
Pallet Flow Racking: With a system that uses gravity to push pallets from the back to the front of the racking, pallet flow systems are commonly used for FIFO (First-In, First-Out) inventory management, ensuring products are rotated properly.
